What would I study on the full Global Citizens'programme?
You will follow a normal A-level programme with an additional Extended Studies subject and the opportunity to achieve Advanced Communication Skills.
This key skill is important for success at university or employment and ensures that you are able to make excellent presentations, work well with others and draft and revise written work to a high standard of clarity and accuracy.
You will also be able to undertake an Extended Project on a theme of your choice and get involved in Community Action, committing some of your time, energy and experience to others, either in the college community or beyond, getting involved in physical activity or sport or taking part in some enrichment activities in an area you love, or you may never have tried before.
You will also have the opportunity to learn a new language or develop your existing language skills. You will also be expected to contribute regularly to Soapbox, our weekly lecture and discussion programme.
Why a Global Citizens' programme?
We live in a world where people are more connected and dependent on each other than ever before. This offers great opportunities as well as great challenges.
We all feel the impact of global social, economic and technological change, inequality and prejudice, conflict and environmental damage. Regent College is very focused on academic success and achievement but we also believe that education is about creating a better future.
The college is a diverse and successful learning community and this makes it the ideal setting to offer a broad education for global citizenship.
Our students achieve excellent exam results and they also want to contribute to changing things for the better and to develop the confidence, knowledge and skills to make a real difference in society. They develop skills of leadership, co-operation, communication, questioning, critical thinking, problem solving and conflict resolution. They learn to understand global, local and individual perspectives and to critically examine all points of view; in other words to be informed, skilled and active global citizens.
The Global Citizens' College programme will help to broaden your understanding of the world and help you to achieve across all your subjects. It will help you to develop the confidence and advanced skills you need for the most challenging university courses and jobs.
